Encouraging sun safety and the impacts of melanoma on young Kiwis.
In the app, an avatar (a tradie figure) reacts to the current UV index in real-time. The tradies would have a hard hat with built-in UV sensors connected to this app. When the weather is scorching and the UV levels are high, the avatar will react instantly by showing itself flushed, sunburnt, looking for shade or “Time to wear protective gear bubble message.” If the tradie doesn’t take immediate action, the avatar will become progressively sunburnt, eventually showing visible signs of aging, including wrinkles, and may develop melanoma.
The avatars can also interact with other colleagues. For example, if someone’s tradie avatar is starting to look sunburnt, they can send a reminder to their mate to seek shade and reapply sunscreen. "Oi mate, you are sizzling! Time to slap on the sunscreen!"
To prove they are wearing sunscreen, they can upload photos of their selfie with sunscreen or sun-protective gear.

The more they apply sunscreen and keep their avatar safe from the sun (which means they are protecting themselves in real-time too), the more points they gain, and whoever gets the highest will unlock real-life rewards. Each avatar is a visual presentation of the tradie under different weather conditions, and it shows if they are taking care of themselves.

This project was worked on alongside three other team members. I contributed to research, campaign idea and graphic illustration. Software used: Figma, Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
